Our surveyors will not only provide detailed reports but will also ensure that the future management is taken care of so your concerns over asbestos disappear. If asbestos is found in your building we will carry out a risk assessment to determine whether the fibres are likely to be released into the air in the future.
We may give a recommendation for the ACMs to be removed but only if we think this is absolutely necessary for the safety of you and anyone who comes in contact with the building. Often it is less intrusive and more cost effective to maintain the asbestos that is present with regular monitoring and management which we can provide.
The surveys we carry out fall into two categories, these are:
These surveys will detect the presence of asbestos or indeed any substances containing asbestos. These are known in the trade as ACMs. They will assess the risk of airborne fibres that could cause diseases when the building is disturbed during normal occupancy.
They are set out as numbers one and two because type 1 is presumptive and uses a well trained eye and a qualified mind to identify each substance whereas type 2 sends samples off to a UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis. We also assess the condition as sometimes you can save your health and money by leaving asbestos well alone as it is only when it is disturbed that the fibres become hazardous.
In all cases we give the most cost effective advice for safely managing the material.
Refurbishment and demolition surveys
This is an intrusive survey that involves some damage to the building. This is essential to discover where the asbestos is and to uncover any that will no doubt be disturbed during demolition or extensive refurbishment. We will send all of our samples to a UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis. There’s little point in assessing the quality as with demolition or refurbishment imminent the asbestos will no doubt be removed.
